Make Halloween Food Allergy Safe with the Teal Pumpkin Project

Updated: Nov 12

There's nothing more frightening on Halloween than a food allergy scare! This year, CVS Pharmacy and FARE are partnering to create a more inclusive and safe Halloween for all children with the Teal Pumpkin Project.

Teal is the new Orange!

Halloween is near, and we can’t wait to celebrate. I have always loved everything about this season, even the holidays. Despite being a kid with food allergies, my mom always made Halloween fun and safe for us. She would focus us more on dressing up and always plan fun activities for the evening to make up for the lack of candy I couldn't eat when trick-or-treating.

While my mom always did a great job making Halloween extra special, there was always a small part of me that wished I could have kept the goodies I trick-or-treated for.

FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project makes trick-or-treating safer for kids with food allergies and other medically restricted diets. You can help make Halloween fun and inclusive for everyone this year with three easy steps.

  1. Place a teal pumpkin on your doorstep or post a teal pumpkin sign on your front door.

  2. Offer non-food treats in their bowl, separate from any other candy.

  3. Add your address to FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project map to let local food allergy families know that children can find safe, non-food treats at your house.

What is the Teal Pumpkin Project?

The Teal Pumpkin Project is a simple way to make trick-or-treating safer and more inclusive for the 1 in 13 children living with food allergies, and many others impacted by intolerances and other conditions. Putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep signals that, in addition to candy, you offer non-food trinkets and treats that are safe for all trick-or-treaters.
